Goals
GOALS OF THE DLCC
- DLCC will define the term distance learning for JCCC campus
and community and publish the definition (on the Web and in
whatever hard copy publications the council develops).
- Collate, synthesize, and review what has already been done,
including other campus DL committees and efforts, and "settle" any
issues, even if the answer is "no, we're not going to do that."
- Review and monitor accrediting agencies and Board of Regents
guidelines
- Create one DL portal on the JCCC web site for all users
(prospective students, current students, faculty, or other
interested parties).
- DLCC will develop a review and plan including short and long
term goals for DL at JCCC that includes:
- a clear delineation of responsibilities (to avoid the perception
of lack of coordination and competition between groups)
- a plan for the development of additional new DL courses that will
enable the college to offer specific degrees and certificates
- a statement of standards for DL course selection, design,
development and support that preserve academic freedom while
assuring an easy to navigate, well-designed, pedagogically sound,
high quality, interactive product for students
- a statement of standards for DL infrastructure including:Orientation
-program orientation, technology requirements
- Registration - open enrollment/exit of programs
- Learner/Staff Support - technical, assessment for learning
styles & skills
- Staff Development
- Program Development (not content)
- Career Counseling and Academic Advising
- Student services – financial aid
- Library services
- Acquisition of textbooks and supplemental aids
- a recommendation for ongoing formative review and evaluation of
all DL course materials and methodologies
- a commitment to training and continual product improvement by
faculty and staff involved in the development and implementation of JCCC's DL efforts
- a plan for technical support and training
- Collate and synthesize what other institutions are doing
and isolate potential applications to JCCC initiatives.
- Identify who's in charge to alleviate redundancies and
confusion.
- Publicize DL and clarify to students what steps they
must take to enroll in online classes (requirements) and
what steps they must take once they have enrolled.
- Market Assessment Plan
- Make recommendation for faculty compensation as subject
area experts in the development and teaching of appropriate
DL courses
